Module 7 - Dravya Guna (Pharmacology)

This module will be devoted to the study of plants and ingredients used as medicines. Their properties, ras, vipaka, virya, gunas, karma, shabhav and prabhav, will be explained. The study will also deal with the most frequently used plants. Some of these plants grow in Europe, others in tropical climates, and others only in arid climates. In this module we will see how, thanks to globalization and the ease of trade, these plants are now available all over the world. The plants that are analyzed in the Shastras (Sushruta Samhita, Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Hridayam) will be studied and their properties analyzed. We will also explain how to use them during treatment. This module must be preceded by Module 6, because knowledge of Nidana must be acquired before the study of plants and ingredients. During the module we will also see the technical aspects of the preparation of these ingredients with methods that can be applied in a healing center or Ayurvedic salon. Thus students will have the opportunity to train themselves to make some simple preparations.
